I finally got my haircut today. It’s long overdue. I only got about 2″ cut off, but I had a few layers cut in too. It looked really good with whatever product the stylist put in so I snapped a pic.
We went to see Hancock at the movie theater tonight. It’s the new Will Smith movie for those of you not in the know. It was REALLY good, as are most of his movies. Very entertaining. I give it 2 thumbs up.
..but hey, it’s a start right? Here are some people Anna drew today:
Not bad for a 2 1/2 year old, right? Interesting enough, she drew the right arm and right leg with her RIGHT hand and drew the left arm and left leg with her LEFT arm. Do I have an ambidextrous child? I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure she’s right handed, but we’ll see.
And then we worked on letters a little bit. She’s gotten quite good at writing A’s and O’s. Here’s our attempt at A through G. I did help a little with the “E” but the rest she did on her own.
Her “B” looks more like an “R”. She’s got the C down now after her first two attempts here. You can kinda see her “D”. She started to do an “E” and then got a little distracted and proclaimed it to be an “H” so we tried again. “F” is pretty good! She was losing interest when she attempted the G, but that’s kind of a hard one.
Not bad though! She’s FINALLY starting to control her drawing and not just scribble scrabble.
Yesterday, Anna was the only one who showed up for her ballet class. All the other classes have had at least 4 other little girls, so I don’t know where they all were. Before the class started she was playing with a toy and her teacher came over to say hi. Anna started babbling about the different things they do in class and then stood up and bent her knees and said clear as day “this is a plie’”. They don’t teach the word “plie’” in class, they just call it bending their knees or something, so the teacher loved that. I was like yeah…I taught her that. She took Anna to show another teacher because she was just so impressed. That’s my little ballerina for you.
Yesterday was the last class in her mini-session and I meant to take my camera and completely forgot because I was rushing out the door so we wouldn’t be late. We’ll be gone on vacation for most of the next session but she will get to make it to the last day of the session in 3 weeks. Then the fall sessions start at the end of August.
I think she loves the class, but thank goodness it’s only 30 minutes. That’s about the max amount of time that they can keep her attention. She’s still not doing quite a bit of what the teacher asks…she’ll just stand there and watch the other kids, but the parents tell me that she’ll start getting into it soon. Hopefully she will. She sure does dance all over the house so I know she enjoys dancing.
I’ll be sure to take my camera to the next class she goes to.
We went to the beach at Galveston on Friday since Dan was off work and had a great time. The water is SO warm here. I love it! Here’s my little beach babe. She had a ton of fun.
And here’s one from today…a RARE photo with me in it.
I have taken ZERO pictures since the 4th, which is why the PhotoBlog hasn’t been updated since then…just so all of my 3 readers know that. ;) We’re heading to Galveston to the beach tomorrow though so I’ll definitely have some new pictures then.
Anna started a ballet/tap/tumbling class this week. It’s a 2-3 year old “Pre-Dance” class and she just loves it. She’s always “doing ballet” at home so I finally found her a class. So far she’s not really participating too much…I think there’s too much going on and she likes to watch the other little girls in the class. The parents said that she’ll get into it soon though. It’s still pretty cute to watch. Here’s a video from her 2nd class this past Wednesday. Enjoy!
I decided to make my “Cardio Tennis” post separate but everything else going on can just go in one post. So let’s see…
I went to NYC for a long weekend a week ago and met up with my friend Mary. We stayed at my sister’s apartment in NYC. We had SUCH A GREAT TIME! I think we did just about every thing we could possibly fit into our 4 days there:
We got up early and tried to get on the TODAY Show and got our 3 seconds of fame.
Top of the Rock (went up to the top of Rockefeller Plaza and had a gorgeous view…we were actually the very first people to the top that day.
St. Patrick’s Cathedral
Central Park
Time’s Square
Shopping on 5th Ave (well ok, WINDOW shopping.)
World Trade Center area
Sex & the City tour (this was AWESOME!)
Mary Poppins on Broadway…Emily’s friend IS Mary Poppins so we got to get a backstage tour and all that. The show was amazing!
…and probably a lot of other stuff I’m forgetting.
We had such a good time though. I used this trip as an excuse to celebrate my upcoming 30th birthday (in TWO days!!) so every night when we went out to dinner Emily and Mary told them it was my birthday so I’d get a dessert. It was fun fun…
Here are a few trips from the trip. The entire album can be found here.
Let’s see, what else is going on? Anna’s about to start her first dance class. I AM SO EXCITED! She is too. She keeps “doing ballet” all over the house so I searched and searched to find a school around that accepts 2 year olds. I originally found one about 25-30 minutes away that has a “mommy and me” class. It’s an 8 week class. We missed the first class and I just realized a couple of days ago that we were going to miss 3 more, so half of the classes for that session…so I’m not paying for that if she’s going to miss so much.
SO. I searched and searched again and found a place that’s about 40 minutes away. They have a 30 minute tumbling/ballet/tap class for 2-3 year olds that’s NOT a “mommy & me”…so we’ll see how that goes. She already has her leotard, tights, ballet slippers and tap shoes, so she’s all set. It’s a 2 week session, with two classes each week (so 4 classes total) and we won’t miss any (well, unless she’s sick or something). So I’m excited! She can’t wait to go….see?
Hmm…I guess that’s about it. I’m sure there’s more going on with me, but it’s really not all that interesting.
I haven’t played tennis much in the past few years but I’ve been itching to get back into it. I played a lot growing up, especially during high school. I got pretty decent but never won any tournaments or anything. Anyway, I’ve been looking all around the area for tennis clinics or some kind of board with people looking to hit and have had a hard time finding anything. I finally found a “cardio tennis” class at a country club not too far away. Luckily the class is open to non-members and is very affordable.
I went tonight for the first time and had a blast. There were 7 of us and everyone was really nice. Luckily it was *only* 90 degrees, though a little muggy…but it could have been a lot worse. I think I probably sweated off about 10 lbs. (Yeah right…that would be nice though..) It was a great workout and a lot of fun. I’m going to go again on Wednesday and try to keep going twice a week. It’ll be good exercise and get me playing more. I think I’ll also be able to hit with some of the people in the class, so it’ll be nice to finally meet some people down here.
Later in the summer I might try to join a league, though it kinda scares me. I was never very good at matches…I think I used to get really nervous, so I don’t want to let a team down. But we’ll see. It’ll probably be fun.
